EINHELL Backpack Blower

The first task in the design process was to define the architecture of the Backpack Blower.


One of the key elements is the heart of the machine: the four-battery pack. We tested different use scenarios and focused on making battery replacement as easy and intuitive as possible. Accessing the batteries from both sides allows the user to swap or remove them in the most convenient way.


The batteries also need to be protected. Therefore, we created a frame around the back of the machine to protect them in case the blower falls backwards. A transparent cover protects the connection areas from dust and water drops. To indicate when the machine is actively running, we added an LED light in the centre of the transparent panel.

Once we had defined the main touchpoints of the product, we also thought further about how to improve user comfort and the overall user experience.


One of the details is a carry hook integrated into the tube, allowing the user to hang a trash bag.
Another detail we added is an additional fabric strap that can be hooked onto the tube, keeping it securely in position while allowing the user to rest their hand.

HANDLING & FLEXIBILITY

Thanks to its compact architecture, the machine allows the user a full range of movement.

The flexible tube and adjustable handle help the user to easily control the direction of the airflow. We tested the control panel on the handle to ensure that, from both an ergonomic and usability perspective, it provides the easiest and most intuitive operation.
